An interview with Hugh Giergiel, events and operations manager at Gianni’s Cafe with locations in Kildeer and Palatine.

Q: Tell us about the business.
A: We are a white table cloth, casual, Italian & seafood restaurant. Gianni’s Cafe is family owned and operated for more than 10 years. Our Kildeer location opened in 2003 and Palatine in 2008.

Q: How did the business start and grow to two locations?
A: The owners, father and father-in-law, were in the restaurant/seafood industry for more than 35 years and decided to take their knowledge and family recipes and open their own restaurant. About five years later they needed more space for the growing business and expanded to Palatine.

Q: How do you serve the business customer?
A: We provide our knowledge of our food, catering experience, excellent cuisine and meeting space to ensure a successful business relationship/experience for the business customer.   

Q: How did the name of the business come about?
A: The name was adapted from the owner’s father and the general manager’s fathers, previous restaurant in which they were partners. It mainly comes from the owners father’s name.

Q: What is the menu like?
A: The menu consists of fresh, authentic seafood, pasta and chicken dishes, with a blend of northern and southern style Italian cuisine.

Q: Tell us one unique thing about the business.
A: In today’s market, we pride ourselves on being family owned and operated. We take great pleasure in providing fresh food and bringing our family recipes to your table just as our families have enjoyed for generations.

Q: What else should people know?
A: We provide beautiful outdoor seating in the summer, along with lovely party rooms and an extensive catering experience. We also have a sister location next door to our Kildeer restaurant, called Gianni’s Espresso Deli which features coffee & espresso drinks, various pastries, breads, fruits and homemade soups and sandwiches.  

Q: What about catering?
A: We provide in-house and off-premise catering for social and corporate occasions. Our three locations feature both private and semi-private rooms. We have an extensive catering menu that features our regular menu, full-pan and half-pan portions to accommodate any party size as well as family style options. We can incorporate our deli menu into any Gianni’s Cafe catering event and provide a staff at off-site events.
