Q: Describe the business.
A: Hotel Baker is a 53-room boutique hotel built in 1928. It is registered with the National Registry of Historic Places. The hotel specializes in business meetings and executive retreats, weddings, special events, dining and entertainment, and guest rooms and suites.
Q: How did the venue get its name?
A: From the man who built the place, Col. Edward Baker.
Q: Describe the scenery and atmosphere.
A: Hotel Baker is located in the heart of downtown St. Charles, next to the scenic Fox River. It has a romantic vintage feel, attracting many discriminating brides and grooms to have their special day on premise. The interior has kept its historic nature, including many of the original pieces in the guest rooms. The restaurant has a contemporary American cuisine and has many old features noted from the early days of the hotel, such as the bar and other features. The rose garden and the patio have been utilized for wedding ceremonies, cocktail receptions, parties and other events. The garden has an assortment of colors once the floral beds come into bloom during the spring and summer seasons.
Q: How does it cater to the business client?
A: The hotel caters to the business clients. We have guest rooms comfortable for those away from home for a short while. Our meeting rooms are perfect for any meeting size. The catering staff is present to serve their needs as they concentrate on the agenda of the meeting. Shuttle service is available when scheduled ahead of time to the corporate offices of our guests.
Q: Do you have full service catering?
A: We have full service catering on property. We have an executive chef and a sous chef who are in charge of the gourmet creations. Our banquet staff is present to serve the clients’ needs.
Q: Is there someone on staff to help in planning an event/meeting?
A: Our sales and catering team is stronger than ever. The team is able to assist and coordinate all the details the clients are seeking.
Q: What is one interesting fact about the business that most people would not know.
A: Many people know of Hotel Baker due to its visibility, by nature. Many interesting facts can be obtained as one does a quick research. The hotel’s Rainbow Room is the most famous due to its 2600 multicolored lights beneath the glass flooring. The floor is manually operated as one changes the colors from one to another.

A: Hotel Baker is celebrating its 85th birthday this year. The owners, Joe and Rowena Salas, will be celebrating 10 years of ownership this year, 2013.
