SCHAUMBURG -- A Des Plaines-based hotel developer believes growth in the hospitality market will soon be returning after a long downturn and is preparing plans for side-by-side hotels in Schaumburg.
The new proposal is among inquiries for four new hotels the village has received recently, in addition to the long-delayed plan for a Cambria Suites hotel, Schaumburg Community Development Director Julie Fitzgerald said.
The village recently received preliminary plans for an extended-stay Town Place Inn and a short-stay Fairfield Inn that would share some common amenities like a swimming pool on a vacant site along National Parkway near Higgins Road by the Tilted Kilt restaurant.
The hotels are proposed to have about 80 rooms each and the buildings would be either four or five stories tall, said Nick Trivedi, director of operations for Trivedi Hospitality in Des Plaines.
His current plan is to begin construction in the later part of 2014 for a mid-2015 opening.
Trivedi said new strength in the job market and stock market are indicators that a recovery in the hotel industry may be creeping over the horizon and he wants to be ready.
"It's not yet on the verge of a comeback, but I think if we start the process now we'll be prepared for it," Trivedi said.
Schaumburg is being chosen as the site for the new project not only for the village's particular corporate business environment, but because Trivedi's company has an existing property nearby that will make it easier to manage them all.
While Rosemont also has a high concentration of hotels, it represents a significantly different market, catering specifically to O'Hare International Airport traffic and lately the nearby casino, Trivedi said.
Though the new proposal's dual-franchise approach isn't all that common, neither is it all that new, Trivedi said.
