The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to Western DuPage Special Recreation Association by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
WDSRA receved the award for its comprehensive annual financial report. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. This is the sixth year in a row that WDSRA has been eligible and has received the award.
An Award of Financial Reporting Achievement was given to Sharon Gedvilas, superintendent of finance and personnel, as primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning annual financial report.
“We are proud to be recognized by the GFOA and are certainly honored to receive this distinction. Credit for this award should be shared with the entire staff as they fully understand the seriousness of good internal controls and sound fiscal management,” says Gedvilas. “Financial reporting for a government agency differs greatly from traditional business reporting. The increased reports, schedules, statistics, and narratives required by GFOA for this award make it much easier for the reader to understand what WDSRA is all about and how we are performing,” she adds.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
WDSRA is a nationally acclaimed organization and a cooperative extension of nine park districts including Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Roselle, Warrenville, West Chicago, Wheaton, and Winfield.
